Do You Qualify for a Pell Grant?
July 29, 2009 5:56 pm BusinessIf you are an undergraduate student who needs financial aid, you may qualify for a pell grant. These grants are the most wanted form of financial aid available from the government and are awarded based on the applicant’s need. The grant does not have to be paid back and in some cases the student may be reimbursed for money he has already spent on school. The applicant’s family income can be as high as $60,000.00 a year, but most pell grants go to those with family incomes below $30,000.00. If there is a change in the family’s circumstances, such as job loss or a younger sibling starting college, the amount of the grant can be adjusted. Once the grant is awarded it is available for a total of eighteen semesters. The United States Department of Education funds pell grants, but the money is appropriated yearly by Congress and is not guaranteed. Of all the forms of financial aid available for education, the pell grant is one of the best.
