A leather dog collar, or any other type of collars for that matter, can have a variety of purposes. Dog collars may be used for identification, medication (such as flea collars), and training. Often, people think of collars for only one purpose. Their choice of collar material may result on these beliefs. Now, there are collars that are sold only with basic uses in mind. They do not need to be as tough as training collars. This does not mean that there are no leather dog collars for basic roles. A name tag can be attached on a basic leather dog collar for identification. Flea medicine is sometimes lathered on basic collars, even though some collars come with the medication on it. Dog collars may also be used for purely aesthetic purposes. As for training collars, these collars are generally tougher than basic dog collars. Leather collars are sometimes good enough for training purposes. However, tough dogs sometimes require something extra such as an electronic or pronged collar.
