Will debt settlement help my situation?

Last year I lost almost everything I had.  It was horrible my 401k disappeared my job was lost, all my stocks plummeted.  And now to add insult to injury I have gotten myself stuck really deep in credit card debt and its unbearable.  I need to find a way to escape this debt trap and get back on my feet these monthly payments is just killing me.  Debt settlement is something that I will be able to use and hopefully resolve this issue quickly and help me save some cash during the process. Maybe I can get my life back once I get out of debt rapidly.
