Do It Yourself Toddler Swimming Lessons: Toddlers and Swimming From The Earliest Age…

11:35 am Health and Fitness

Do you want to give your child the benefit of toddler swimming lessons because you are aware of all the benefits, but find yourself unable to afford the very high swimming fees?  Don’t worry, you will still be able to give all these benefits to your child by teaching them yourself.  Let us first look at the tremendous benefits of swimming lessons.  They have been shown to offer:

Increased confidence and self esteem
Increased intelligence
Increased social and emotional skills
Improved cognitive behaviour
An awareness of the importance of leading an active lifestyle in a fun way

So how do you give toddler swimming lessons yourself?  Well, the reality is that swimming is just like walking: at some point, you just get it.  The important thing is that you allow your child to be completely comfortable in water.  Don’t try to force them to swim but just let them find their own two feet.  Allow them to simply feel secure by playing fun games and splashing about.  You can start all of this at home, of course.  If you have a bath, allow your child to spend plenty of time in the bath and allow them to splash, getting water on their face in particular.

Keep taking your child to the swimming pool without expecting them to swim 20 laps in their first session.  Just be there for them and be incredibly supportive, applauding every little thing they do.  Use toys and floatation devices and come up with games – that is all that is needed.  You will soon find that their natural curiosity will get the better of them and they will soon be swimming.  Don’t you feel bad for all those people that pay a hefty price for toddler swimming lessons now?
